It now feels like Spring is really coming, yet those of us who
participated in the winter trips will not soon forget the wonderful
snow conditions at Craftsbury and Bretton Woods. At Craftsbury in
addition to all the fun we had skiing and snow shoeing , we also
conducted our first silent auction where we raised over $700. On our
Bretton Woods trip a few folks had the opportunity to take a dog sled
ride and tour the lovely Bretton Woods area.
Many thanks to our guide trainers who did such a great job working with
our new guides. We had 11 new guides join us. Several had participated
in the international event but it was their first time with the regional
event. We also had 4 new skiers join us, and 2 of them had never skied
before.
Summer is coming and it’s time to get ready for biking, hiking and
canoeing! We look forward to returning to Cranmore Mountain Lodge in
July where we will hike, canoe, and enjoy the wonderful hospitality of
the Flanigans. In October we will be staying at the new AMC Highland Center in Crawford
Notch. It’s a new state of the art facility which will be opening in
June. What a great time of the year to hike in such a beautiful area of
NH!
Would you like to get more involved in NERSFL? We’d like to hear your
ideas! Help us plan some events! Join the board of directors!
We have one board position open now, and others will be opening up a
year from now. Please send a letter of interest and your resume’ to PO
Box 2170, West Brattleboro, Vermont 05303.
Let’s support Evan Lenson who will once again be hiking to raise funds
for New England Regional Ski For Light. On June 21, he will hike the
Presidential Traverse (Madison, Adams, Jefferson, Clay, Washington,
Monroe, Franklin, Eisenhower, Pierce, Jackson and Webster Mountains)
This is a 23.5 mile hike that will probably take 17 hours more or less
to complete. Support him by sending a donation to NERSFL in his name.
Evan is looking for transportation from the Crawford Notch area to
return to his car on the evening of June 21 at approximately 8 pm . If
you can help him, please contact Evan at (508)655-0572.
Please share this newsletter with friends as we are always looking
for new participants and guides to be a part of Ski For Light trips!
Thanks go to all of our guides and participants for making New England
Regional Ski For Light what it is today. Thanks to the wonderful board
of directors that I have had the great pleasure of working with
throughout this season. They really keep me on my toes! by Marie
Hennessy
